Renee Hardman is honored to serve as an at-large member of the West Des Moines City Council, where she is committed to strengthening communities, advancing inclusive leadership, and delivering practical results for families and neighborhoods across one of Iowa’s fastest-growing cities.
A proud graduate of Drake University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and an MBA, Renee built her career in employee development, human resources, and organizational leadership. She is the founder of Hardman Consulting, where she champions small business owners and helps organizations grow with intention and equity. In 2017, Renee made history as the first African American woman elected to the West Des Moines City Council and later served as mayor pro tem, earning recognition for her leadership and community impact.
Now, Renee represents Iowa State Senate District 16, bringing her hands-on, collaborative approach to the state level. She believes government works best when it listens first and leads with empathy, and she is focused on priorities that matter most to Iowans: strong public schools, safe and welcoming communities, and an economy that creates opportunity for everyone.
